I love this time of the year!

The marking's done! Results decided. All that's left is the O'levels. I actually love small group tuition. I feel that I can actually connect with them during these sessions. I can see the absorption of knowledge and the realization and understanding once they 'got' it. Plus I really do have real affections towards my sec 4s.

Was bored this morning and looked through some of my old blog posts of previous years. Mostly at the pictures I put up. I should put up more pictures... they are the ones I enjoyed looking at most of the times. It's like an online photo album!

Student years are the best! Nothing to worry about except how to improve in kendo and how to attend more trainings. School was a breeze. Until the honours year that is... then I started feeling slightly stressed up. But Kendo was a constant in my NUS years. My Kendo pals (and J) were the constant in NUS. Joined in honours year by Ra, Nat and Hen. They made the four years there fantastic in spite of the school.

Then NIE... studying while getting paid. How great was that? Kendo was no longer a constant... and I kinda missed that.

Practicum was fun and surprisingly not as stressful as I'd thought it would be. Kids were great, my mentors were great, my sup was great, even my practicum mates were great. Guess I was really lucky. Kendo was not in the picture at this point in time. I guess I feel slightly sad.

Starting work for real at my current school. I have my grouses and my whines and complaints... but overall I think I had and still have a great time in school. I'm happiest in 2007 I guess. My 4E5'07 was a great source of comfort and amusement. Sometimes, a source of heartache... but mostly happy memories from them. Best of all, I have this group of whacky colleagues that turned into bosom buddies! J once told me that colleagues are not friends. But I feel that this group made the transition quite well. hahahaha... It's sad that my whacky pals are leaving the service one by one... but friendship extend beyond work! That's the difference between friends and colleagues!

2008 was an ok year. My 4E5 is gone but they've gone to bigger better things in life and I'm happy for them. My classes this year are cool and I have my current sec 4s to consider so am kept rather busy. Another bunch of kids who feel that no one believes in them. Attitude this time is slightly better. I'm expecting more from this batch. Sweet kids. My friends are still around. J is still around. Just that... Kendo in this period of my life was periodic to say the least. Once a month if I'm lucky with old friends... nothing constant. There's always other things I'm busy with... my kids, my work, my friends... all excuses. And I know this. Recently, I looked at my bougu, my shinai bag, my poor neglected shinais, my gi and hakama, and recalled how happy I was when I first bought them in year 1. I feel that I cannot let it end like that. I feel like going back and I think that I'm going to.

Heh. Met up with kitty and fad again after a damn long time. Didn't have a chance to catch up much though.... too many people at Geylang.

Anyways, the main reason for the blog post is to illustrate how weird kitty still is... he hasn't change much I guess. =P

And on the 4th day, God created Dinosaurs...

Went out with the AK peeps for dinner and movie. While waiting for the movie to start, a religious discussion occurred, and the above nonsense was the highlight !

Bernard 3:16

"On the 4th day, God created Dinosaurs and other assorted creatures. The other assorted creatures survived but the poor dinos didn't survive to the 5th day."

=_= What.The.Hell!

Hahahahahaa... it's super hilarious! According to my dear friend who was defending his faith against us heretics, "day" in bible was merely a metaphor and that god created dinosaurs. That's the reason why we found dinosaur fossils!

Another classic -

Bernard 3:17

"The fossils of the cavemen were merely the remains of deformed humans. We did not evolve from apes. The scientists hid all the remains of the 'normal' humans... it's a conspiracy!"

I've never laughed so hard for so long!

Bernard 3:18

"The location in which he was found is not indicative of his religion"

The above was in response to J's retort that the first man was found in Sumatra and therefore could be a muslim!

Gigz is such a good sport! He doesn't get angry and defensive when we asked difficult questions (i.e. attack) his religion. He deflects it with humour. While I'm still not convinced, I'm impressed with the way he tried to answer the questions posed, even though some of his answers are FULL OF SHIT. Hahaha... and he KNOWS it!

It's the weekend again! This time, its the weekend before school starts again. T_T I need to treasure every single minute! The drugery will begin anew. Can't. Believe. It.

Mad people in school on a Sat!!

L came for a visit and we got bored waiting for the bhai… so we took her camera and started snapping away!!

There’s more… but frankly speaking… those are scary… haha…

More pictures!

Hahaha…. we’re class 4e9!

It’s always sweet when ex-students come and visit. Especially my top student! =)

Me and the tall girl

Boss looks cute with the bunny ears!

The coolest department in school.

My kids

My ex-students came back today! Not all of them, but most of them. Was truly happy to see them! I think they have a special place in my heart. My first batch of silly kids. Didn’t take pictures of all of them coz my camera wasn’t with me and I was busy with the performance… but I really love love love the ones I managed to take with them!

Super sweet girls who made my day by giving me my first teachers’ day present! =)

One of my “darlings” who came to school and after a lot of nonsense comments, didn’t even wish me HAPPY TEACHERS’ DAY!!!

With my darling YJ. She’s always cheerful and bubbly.

Silly zul who is still so absurbly cheerful. Haha… and not to forget…

The unforgetable magneto… he’s just adorable lah. I’d seen him grow from a small round ball into a big… only slightly round ball… He’s really one of my favs.

Then here’s some of my current kids. Equally cute.

It's the end of the term!!

It's the celebration tomorrow. Strangely, I am not really excited bout tomorrow. Sure I'm happy bout it. But only because it signify the end of a term and the start of a whole week without lessons and kids. My form class is rather sweet but I'm looking forward to seeing my ex kids again. If they come back that is. I'm hopeful but not 100% certain. =_=

The coming week will be filled with endless preparation, extra lessons and over-due markings. Hopefully it'll also be filled with days of rolling around doing nothing, watching endless dvds and meeting up with dear dear buddies. =)

Financial planning

Was supremely bored today and was chatting with PK on msn. He ended up being my financial advisor! It was quite funny actually but in spite of all the name-calling and insults we directed at each other, he did manage to give some enlightening advise on my financial situation.

And so, I'm to save 40% of my income every month. No more internet purchases for me till the end of september and more importantly, no more LV bags.

Yes father, I've seen the errors of my ways and I'll change... or at the very least, I'll try. =P

It's a calling... of which I lack

Disjointed rant ahead.

Nowadays, I can totally understand why people said that it is a calling. People who do not have it will not last long. I can feel it now. The feeling of being stretched (not in a good way) thin and my own inadequacies in my profession. I used to laugh and take things in my stride but I find that increasingly hard to do. I don't want the kids to suffer because of my inadequacies but it's so hard to find the time for them. I especially find it frustrating when I don't have the time for extra lessons with them. What's more contradictory is that I don't want to give up my life for them.

If the kids are good, I really don't mind giving up part of my weekend for them. Like my sec 4s, they're fantastic, therefore, I don't really mind if they need more of my time. But looking at the sec 3s I feel drained. I'm not even comparing them to my previous classes anymore. I still feel drained. I hate being a form teacher. All the forms to collect, the problematic kids to handle, the complaints from other teachers, their lack of motivation, their lack of responsibility. It's all killing me. I want to teach, not be an administrator. If I got to be an administrator, then I'd rather be a full-time adminstrator, not a part time teacher on top of all the adminstrative work I got to do. It's really ridiculous.

Sometimes I just want to stone the day away. Don't feel like doing anything at all. Just heck it all to hell and let them handle themselves for a day or two. But the backlog of work is worse than before. So that's not a good idea.

That being said, I don't hate the kids. I just don't like their attitude. It seriously made me wonder what their parents have been teaching them at home. Sometimes they are adorable. Other times, they're like little monsters. I feel like inflicting pain on someone right now.... in fact, anyone will do.

God help the next person who provokes me. =_=

Just a little dribble...coz I'm bored...

Have a little bit of time before S comes to pick me up from my place, and I'm bored. So I thought I'd reflect a little on stuff that I've seen and thought about these past few months. Might not be new or anything but I've realised that people tend to view things differently at different stages of life.

I was at e-hub just the other day and I saw this group of teenagers behaving rather badly in public. I've seen kids behaving badly before and I've seen my share of good and sensible kids. Was just thinking to myself that if any of the kids were MY kids, I'd feel so ashamed and sad. At that point in time, I've realised that I'd joined the "aunties" category. But I can't help it! Maybe I won't have kids after all. The chances of them ending up like those people will be there and I don't think I can stand it.

On another totally unrelated point, I was just talking to my dad. Totally random chat about his business, my friends, his friends etc etc. Ya know... just a random pointless chat to pass the time. But it got me thinking about the kind of friends I had and still have and the kind of person I want to aspire to be and the kind that I don't want to become. Am not a very nice person by nature. Funny thing is, I don't really aspire to be nicer than what I am. I don't have the burning need to try to be a better person then what I am now. However, I do want to be more of my own person, to stick to my own opinions and have confidence that while my views are not 100% right, they ARE my views and therefore worth defending. That's not to say I'll think that my views are always right but I think I'll try not to change my views to suit what my friends feel. I've seen it happening first hand on some people and I feel sad for that person. How do I put it... when you have to change your opinions or your view on things to suit another person's point of view, no matter how much you like the other person, I feel that it's kinda sad. That eagerness to please and the fear that you've incurred the 'disapproval' of the other person. That just smacks of insecurity. No matter how important that other person really is to you, you shouldn't let it progress to that stage. It's just sad.

And once, a friend told me that the reason why people feel so strongly against a certain kind of characteristics is because they have the potential to behave that way or are already displaying that kind of characteristics. I find that super scary. If I do behave in that manner, do give me a smack on the back of the head to wake me up. =_=

Since i have some time to spare...

Well, recently, I've decided something that I thought I'd never do. I applied for my masters in NIE. Is the masters being offered at NIE credible? Honestly I don't have much of an idea. I know that it's not the smartest thing to do... applying for masters when I'm not even sure if I'd want to stay in this line. Taking up the course would mean that the next 3-4 years of my life is fixed and that being said, I'd have to continue with what I'm doing now. And while I don't hate it, it's not the my favourite thing in the world either.

But I can't take the monotony anymore. I feel that everyday I'm facing the same bloody things. O'levels are just not mentally challenging for me. After all, I did take mine a decade ago, granted, things were different back then. But I can't keep swimming in this small pond. I feel the need to stretch myself mentally. I feel dumbed down in work by the routine lifestyle.

Truth be told, I missed being a student. =_=

My precious

Over and done with! By far the most expensive purchase I've made in my life for myself! But oh so pretty. =)

Uh oh... no more holidays

8th to 10th June was the fantastic KL trip with the lovely kiddies and wonderful crazy bunch of people. Even though we had to go traipsing through rain-forests, rice mill and palm oil factory, the company made it all better. =)

Right after that was the much anticipated Taiwan trip with the AK peeps. Hilarious bunch of people. They're definitely good travelling companions! Well... not everyone all the time but damn close to 90% of the time. So on hindsight, both J and me agree that it was a great trip! Except that it rained almost all the time when we were there. *sigh*

There's not much pictures uploaded because my connection sucks and the blogger picture uploader is giving me grief. It sort of reminded me of the vicious cycle of relations I had with BT. I hate BT and BT hates me. Haha...

Anyways, first week of school is over and I still owe my head piles of work! Time to be more serious in my work if I still want my PB next year!
